Raymond of Poitiers
   Prince of Antioch (1136-1149). When John II Komnenos (q.v.) besieged Antioch (q.v.) in 1137, Raymond capitulated and accepted the Treaty of Devol (q.v.). He swore homage to John, gave John free entry into Antioch, and promised to return it to Byzantine hands. However, he reneged on his promise, which prompted John II to invade the region again in 1142. The problem resolved itself after the fall of Edessa (q.v.) in 1144. With Antioch more directly endangered Raymond was forced to swear homage to Manuel I (q.v.). The alliance with Antioch was sealed in 1161 when Maria of Antioch (q.v.), the daughter of Raymond of Poitiers, married Manuel I.
